What we do

The TMK exists to bring together national civil society organisations with those organisations set up and run by refugees across Turkey (refugee-led organisations). It aims to drive creative and effective collaborations amongst these groups, that leverage their knowledge and experience to improve policymaking and implementation.

The members of the TMK work together to develop policy propositions based on the priorities of the communities they work with across Turkey.  We also strive to ensure that the experience and perspectives of civil society organisations working in Turkey, which hosts more refugees than any other country in the world, is reflected in international policy discussions about forced displacement.

The TMK does this by providing a platform for collaboration between civil society organisations working with or for refugees and refugee-led organisations.

The TMK’s work towards this objective includes, but is not limited to, the following activities:

  • Our thematic Working Groups lead the TMK’s policy and advocacy work on a range of issues, according to the priorities of the communities that we work with;
  • We are reach out to like-minded civil society organisations and initiatives to broaden our platform and build collaborative initiatives;
  • We carry out research to address gaps in the knowledge base about refugees and host communities in Turkey and to enhance understanding of the priorities of these groups;
  • We build dialogue and share briefings with key government institutions, multilateral organisations and other stakeholders that work with refugees and host communities;
  • We collaborate with like-minded organisations and networks in other parts of the world to exchange experiences and jointly influence international policymaking processes.
