Afghan Refugees Solidarity Association (ARSA) held an event on December 5, World Women's Rights Day

In 1952, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 5 December as International Women's Rights Day. The 16 days between 25 November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) and 10 December (Human Rights Day) have been recognized as 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence since 1991.

Afghan Refugees Solidarity Association (ARSA) held an event on December 5, World Women's Rights Day, within the framework of the 16-Day Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign accepted by the UN.
Our event started with the opening speech by ARSA Association President Dr. Zakira Hekmat. “While the equality of men and women, human rights and freedoms are guaranteed by the European Convention on Human Rights and also by the constitution, the rights of women are violated the most in our country and in the world. These violations of rights and the increasing number of physical and psychological violence against women affect the woman first and then her entire family. Moreover, these violations negatively affect the general public order and society." Hekmat said in her speech. Hekmat also stated that women should be involved in all areas of life, from education to politics, from health to economy, from sports to art, from legislative, executive and judicial to business world and that more opportunities should be provided.
After the opening speech, an information session on Gender-Based Violence was held with the presentation of Lawyer Şeyma Herdem. Herdem talked in detail about women's rights, types of violence and channels for combating violence in the information session. Our information session was held in Turkish and Persian. At the end of the session, Attorney Herdem answered the questions of the participants about the legal processes.
After the information session, a music concert was presented by the music group formed by the volunteers of the ARSA organisation. Our participants, mostly women and also children and men, danced and had fun at the music concert. Afterwards, a painting activity was carried out with the participants in order to raise awareness on behalf of women who have been subjected to violence, everyone left their handprints on paper after they chose their colors with enthusiasm and curiosity and painted their hands.
Our event ended with lunch given to our participants at the end of the day.
