With the increase in the need for psychological services in the 1970s, individuals working in this field started to have some professional needs, and the Psychologists Association (PD) was established on October 25, 1976 in Ankara in order to meet these needs under an organized structure. The Psychologists Association, which has become the professional organization with the highest number of members nationwide in its field of activity, was granted "permission to use the Turkish word in the title" by the Council of Ministers on 29 November 1994; Thus, the title of the association was updated as "Turkish Psychologists Association". Shortly after, in 1996, the Psychology Association, which was established in Istanbul in 1956, joined the Ankara-based Turkish Psychologists Association, and joined forces. When the calendars showed the month of December 1997, the association was granted "public benefit association status" with the decision of the Council of Ministers. The intervention program developed to provide urgent and well-organized interventions to the earthquake region after the Marmara Earthquake in 1999 was initiated by the Turkish Psychologists Association and continued with the cooperation established with the Prime Ministry Crisis Management Centre and UNICEF.

In this sense, it would be appropriate to state that the Turkish Psychologists Association is the institution that initiates psychological assistance to the region. The association continues to voluntarily offer its experience and competencies in the intervention to trauma, which it has specialized especially with the Marmara Earthquake, in all kind of crises, traumatic events and disasters.

The Turkish Psychologists Association was established on October 25, 1976 in order to contribute to the modernization of psychology science and institutions in our country, to protect the professional rights of psychologists and to contribute to the resolution of national psychological problems. Association has the status of a public-benefit association, and carries out scientific publishing and educational activities.
